Galil Ela Red Blend: a smooth, food-friendly red from Israel's Upper Galilee
Galil Ela Red Blend is a Syrah and Barbera based red from Galil Mountain Winery in Israel's Upper Galilee, Certified Kosher for Passover (KP), making it a natural choice for a Thank You gift or a Just Because bottle for someone who enjoys an easy drinking, well made red.
Tasting Experience: bright fruit and delicate tannins
Wild blackberry and sour cherry lead the nose, with a thread of black pepper and plum carrying through to the palate. Dry at 3 g/L sugar and 15% ABV, this full-bodied, smooth red is built on delicate tannins after a year of aging in French oak, following a full malolactic fermentation.
Perfect Pairings: Culinary Harmony
- Grilled Merguez Sausage: bright red fruit and a black pepper note match the spice of grilled lamb sausage.
- Roast Chicken with Za'atar: smooth tannins and plum fruit complement the herbal, savoury rub.
- Eggplant Shakshuka: soft tannins and ripe fruit stand up to the tomato and spice without overpowering it.
- Semi-Firm Sheep's Cheese: the wine's bright acidity cuts through the cheese's richness.
Serving Tips: temperature, decanting and glassware
Serve at 14 to 16°C. Little to no decanting is needed given its smooth, approachable tannins; pour into a standard red wine glass. Enjoy within a few years of the vintage for its freshest fruit character.

Producer & Region: Galil Mountain Winery and Israel's Upper Galilee
Galil Mountain Winery sits in Israel's Upper Galilee, near Kibbutz Yiron close to the Lebanese border, where high elevation and cool nights favour slow, even ripening. Ela, named for the wild terebinth trees that grow across the vineyard sites, blends Syrah and Barbera fermented on the skins for 10 to 20 days at around 28°C before a full malolactic fermentation and a year in French oak, giving the wine its smooth, rounded character.
